  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water or milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup raisins or chopped dried fruit
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1215 dried corn husks, soaked in warm water

Instructions

  1. Soak corn husks in warm water for 30 minutes.
  2. Mix masa harina, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat butter until fluffy, then gradually add masa mixture and warm liquid.
  4. Stir in vanilla, raisins, and nuts to form a soft dough.
  5. Drain corn husks and pat dry.
  6. Spread 2-3 tbsp of dough on each husk and fold to enclose.
  7. Steam tamales for 60 minutes until firm.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use ripe plantains or cinnamon for extra flavor.
  • If dough sticks to husks, add more masa or liquid.
