A straightforward recipe for making delicious sourdough bread at home, perfect for beginners.

Ingredients

  • 500g bread flour
  • 350ml water
  • 100g sourdough starter
  • 10g salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the bread flour and water until combined.
  2. Add the sourdough starter and salt, and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 4-6 hours at room temperature.
  5. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it in a floured proofing basket.
  6. Cover and let it rise for another 2-3 hours.
  7. Preheat the oven to 230°C (450°F) with a Dutch oven inside.
  8. Carefully transfer the dough to the hot Dutch oven, cover, and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure your sourdough starter is active before using.
  • Adjust the water amount based on the flour type and humidity.
  • For a crustier loaf, bake with steam for the first 20 minutes.
