  2. In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, orange juice, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, and orange zest.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Add the pears to the saucepan and reduce the heat to a simmer.
  5. Cover and poach the pears for about 20-30 minutes, or until tender.
  6. Remove the pears and let them cool in the syrup.
