Haunted forest cake roll

A spooky haunted forest cake roll perfect for Halloween.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chocolate frosting
  • Black food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  2. Beat eggs and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Fold into egg mixture.
  4. Spread batter evenly onto prepared pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
  5. Dust a clean towel with powdered sugar. Flip warm cake onto towel.
  6. Roll cake with towel from the short end. Cool completely.
  7. Whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Unroll cake and spread cream.
  8. Re-roll cake without towel. Chill for 1 hour.
  9. Tint chocolate frosting black. Pipe haunted forest trees and ghosts.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for darker black frosting
  • Chill cake before slicing for clean cuts
  • Add edible glitter for extra spooky effect
