  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into three equal parts.
  6. Roll each part into a long rope and braid them together.
  7. Place the braided dough on a greased baking sheet and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Brush the braided bread with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.
