Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine applesauce, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. If desired, fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 9×9 inch baking pan.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
